Statistics on Separation Anxiety Disorder
According to the National Comorbidity Survey of U.S. households, separation anxiety in children and adults were placed at 4.1% and 6.6%, respectively.
One-third of the participants (36.1%) experienced the condition until adulthood while 77.5% first encountered the condition during their adulthood. 10
Separation anxiety disorder is prevalent in 1.3% of children aged 14-16 years old and in 1.4% of children aged 7-11 years old. It has an average prevalence of 2.4%.
In 1987, Burke recorded that 5% of school-aged children were reluctant to attend school. The mean age for the onset of separation anxiety disorder is 7.5 years old, while school refusal is 10.3 years old.
Among young children, separation anxiety disorder is prevalent in 4.1% of children aged 7-11 years old and in 3.9% of children aged 12-14 years old.
In adolescents 14-16 years old, the prevalence rate is 1.3 percent.
