Suggestions on Rett’s Disorder
Listed are some suggestions to help alleviate RS symptoms:
Management of gastrointestinal complaints (reflux, constipation) by providing food rich in fiber.
Always give a well-balanced diet to counter nutritional (poor weight gain) issues.
Calcium rich foods will help in strengthening bones which will protect them from fractures. (since RS patients often fall over)
Practice speech therapy to improve the patient's communication skills, especially with augmentative communication strategies.
Practice muscle movements through physical therapy to soften rigidity.
Following sleep aids or sleep hygiene to prevent insomnia or other sleep disorders.
Joining a support group.
