Teenage Alcohol Addiction
A very serious problem that parents are now facing with their adolescents is teenage alcohol addiction. Many teens view their casual alcohol abuse as “just for fun” or through “peer-pressure” which can be identified as a social activity, which may result in major problems and struggles in the near future.
The average age that teenagers have their first drink of alcohol is 11 years old for boys and 13 years old for the girls. With these statistics, it is more possible for them to become alcohol addicts because the earlier they start drinking, the more likely they will suffer from alcohol addiction. Research studies have demonstrated that teenage alcohol addiction is associated with the age at which teenagers start drinking and to the frequency and the amount of their drinking.
Also, according to research that was conducted by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), teenagers who start to drink before they are 15 years old are four times more likely to become alcohol dependent than teens who begin drinking at 21 years of age.
So, what would be the best plan to prevent this? In order to reduce teenage alcohol addiction, giving educational information and preventive programs for youth can be very worthwhile. There are numerous treatment programs around the country that are intended to help and assist teens to overcome this life-threatening condition. If you are one of these or have someone you love who has this problem, it is very important to get the help they need before it breaks their lives or damages their future.
